KyNa Boutique was set up in October 2011 by Jenny Mortimer, with the aim of providing a great range of ethical yet fashionable kids' clothing. Although still in its infancy, KyNa is quickly gaining a great reputation for its organic clothes for age 0-5. Mum of two Jenny told me a little more about the business and her plans for the future.

On offering something different…

"My business is different in a number of ways, not only is everything organic but I offer free delivery on all orders and free pre-paid returns, with a return period of 60 days! I understand how hard it is to go shopping with children. Time is very precious when you have young children, so I wanted to provide a service that lets you try on in the comfort of your own home without any worry. On top of this I aim to WOW you with my customer service and send each order beautifully wrapped and posted the same day where possible! I also have a loyalty scheme where you can collect points to earn money off future purchases and a recommend a friend scheme."

On enlisting help wherever possible…

"I own the business and work by myself, however I’m always dragging my husband in to help with more technical issues and I also involve the boys as much as possible. They sometimes influence what I stock! I have two lovely boys. Kyle is 7 - he’s the chatterbox of the family - and Nate is 18 months old and very much in his exploring phase."

On finding the time for everything…

"When it comes to being a mumpreneur, the best bit and the most difficult bit is probably the same thing! I can fit work around school and looking after the children. I no longer have to worry about missing out on school plays, meetings and things that are important to my children. However this means that I sacrifice my “me” time and am often found working until midnight."

On aiming high…

"I’d like the business to grow into the largest retailer of organic children’s clothes, offering a wide enough choice so that mums no longer have to choose between organic or fashionable, at the same time showcasing the small unique companies. Additionally, we want to be known for our amazing service. People deserve to be treated well when they spend money with you so I make sure they know we appreciate it when they do."

On giving advice to other mums…

"Running your own business can be very rewarding but also very hard work. Make sure people know when you are working and that they can’t just pop in for a cuppa! Otherwise you will never get anything done. Apart from that, face the fear and go for it!"
